Nexus II: Jewelry and Touch

Nexus II: Gioiello e tatto

Galleria Carlo Lucidi, June 6 – August 2, 2025

From June 6 to August 2, 2025, the Galleria Carlo Lucidi in Rome presents Nexus II: Jewellery and Touch. Curated by the artist who conceived the project, the exhibition showcases 30 unique pieces of authorial jewellery made from metals and unconventional materials, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. At the heart of this curatorial vision lies the concept of “nexus”: the deep connection between matter and form, explored through the sense of touch as a primary way of experiencing the work. In this context, jewellery is not only an ornament to be admired, but an object that invites touch—and in turn, touches the wearer—prompting reflections on wearability, tactile emotion, and the construction of identity.

Exhibition Highlights

  • 30 authorial jewellery pieces crafted from unconventional metals and materials, reinterpreted in a contemporary key.

  • The concept of nexus: the connection between matter and form as the core curatorial focus.

  • The primacy of touch: jewellery as a sensory experience and a medium of identity.

  • Works by three emerging international artists: Josephine Kang, Meira Rauta, and Yael Herman.

  • Opening reception with the presence of two of the featured artists.

Matter and Form: The Concept of “Nexus”

Nexus II takes its name from the Latin word nexus, meaning “connection” or “bond.” This very bond forms the core of the exhibition: the link between raw matter and finished form. The 30 displayed works are born from the meeting of primal elements—precious metals, copper and brass with experimental treatments, acetate and prints—with the creative vision of the artists. The result is a collection of small sculptural objects that challenge the conventions of traditional jewellery: each piece reinterprets the inherent qualities of the material, inviting the viewer to reflect on how matter shapes thought, and vice versa.

Jewellery as a Tactile Experience

The “nexus” explored in this exhibition is also a metaphor for contact: touch becomes the primary sense through which the work is perceived. Visitors are invited to imagine the play of surfaces, reliefs, and textures under their fingers—even when the pieces are encased in glass. Tactile memory is reawakened through sight and imagination. The exhibition embraces the idea of jewellery as an object that welcomes touch and, in doing so, conveys sensations and deeper meanings. Wearing one of these pieces means establishing a new relationship with material: feeling its weight and texture on the skin, experiencing the work as a small sculpture that becomes part of one's body and identity.

Emerging International Artists

Nexus II highlights the talent of three emerging female artists on the international contemporary jewellery scene. Josephine Kang, Meira Rauta, and Yael Herman each bring a distinctive sensibility and material exploration, ranging from conceptual minimalism to organic language. Their creations engage in an ideal dialogue of experiences and influences: from Kang’s bold use of colour and unusual textures, to Herman’s fluid and layered forms, and Rauta’s symbolic use of natural elements. This selection reflects the curatorial intent to promote innovative and female voices in the field. The opening night on June 6 will also feature the presence of two of the artists, offering visitors a chance to engage directly with the creative minds behind the works.

An Invitation to the Public

Nexus II is an invitation to experience jewellery in a new way: not just as viewers, but as sensory participants. The exhibition speaks to a broad audience—from collectors to design enthusiasts, from contemporary art lovers to anyone intrigued by tactile experience—offering personal interpretive keys for each visitor. Crossing the gallery’s threshold, guests are encouraged to explore each piece with their eyes and imagination, perceiving the material details and interpreting their symbolic resonance. At the end of the exhibition journey, those who wish may take a fragment of the experience with them: each piece is conceived as a unique and evocative object, ready to extend that tactile and narrative encounter beyond the gallery walls.
